Ready, Set, Go!

March 3, 2022

We were learning simile, metaphor, and personification. Each group of three students had to come up with an original example of each.

I called on the first group to present their simile example- they chose a member to stand up and share. That group member stays standing as the next group's representative stands and shares. I (the teacher) judges which example is better. The loser sits, the winner stays standing and competes against the next group. The final group standing wins.

I've found that asking groups of students to come up with examples of something we are learning gives them a chance to collaborate and internalize without a lot of pressure.
